Mandatory Cover

When you rent a vehicle from Avis, the price you are quoted automatically includes a basic level of cover should you be involved in an accident.

Mandatory cover is included unless you have prearranged contracted rates. If you have contracted rates please contact your company representative to find out your cover arrangements.

Legal Liability, Third Party and Public Liability Cover
These are compulsory, in case you damage someone or something else, including passengers and their property in the rented vehicle. By law, these are included in your rental price.


What does it cover?
• Covers you in case you cause damage, including passengers and their property, when using the Avis vehicle

Does not cover:
• Theft or attempted theft of the vehicle
• Theft of personal belongings from the vehicle
• Death or injury to the driver
• Damage to the rental vehicle


Vehicle Damage Cover (CDW)
If the rental car is damaged, this will cover the cost of repairs. You will, however, have to pay a fixed amount towards the repair costs. This is known as the excess. This applies regardless of whether you were at fault. 

What does it cover?
• Cost of repairs to the Avis vehicle if it is damaged
• You will, however, have to pay an excess charge towards the cost of repairs. This applies regardless of fault
• If we can recover these costs from a responsible third party, we will reimburse you

Does not cover:
• Damage caused intentionally or by gross negligence
• Damage caused by failure to use correct fuel
• Damage caused as a result of a breach of the rental agreement


Vehicle Theft Cover (TP)
If the rental car is stolen, this will cover the cost of replacing it (or parts of it). You will, however, have to pay an excess.


What does it cover?
• Covers you for the cost of replacing the Avis vehicle (or parts of it) if it gets stolen
• You will, however, have to pay an excess charge towards the replacement cost.

Does not cover:
• Negligence regarding loading of a vehicle (e.g. car unsupervised) or keys safekeeping (e.g. left in the ignition)

Small vehicles car group:
o  Vehicle Group: A,B,C,D
o  Excess Charge: Between $2,400 and $3,600

- Medium Vehicles Car Group:
o  Vehicle Group: E,F,G,K
o  Excess Charge: Between $4,000 and $8,000

- Large & premium Vehicles Car Group:
o  Vehicle Group: H,I,J,L,P
o  Excess Charge: Between $10,000 and $14,000

- Luxury Car Group:
o  Vehicle Group: K,M,N,NL,PL
o  Excess Charge: Between $16,000  and $30,000

Prestige Vehicle Excess Charges

- Jaguar XF:
o  Excess Charge:Between $10,000 and $14,000

Jaguar XJ:
o  Excess Charge:Between $16,000 and $30,000

- Range Rover Evoque:
o  Excess Charge: Between $16,000  and $30,000

- All New Range Rover Sport:
o  Excess Charge: Between $16,000  and $30,000

- Range Rover Vogue:
o  Excess Charge: Between $16,000  and $30,000

Optional Additional Cover - charged additionally to the quoted price

Avis also offer a selection of additional cover, designed to provide that extra peace of mind.
